The advancement of technology has gone so far that majority of jobs has been replaced by machine. The COVID 19 Pandemic has shown how the world now can turn into remote and where every jobs can be transferred to the homes of people. We don’t have to leave our house to do our jobs. In the situation like this the major questions arise are we all ready to turn the world into remote working zone ? Can majority of people stay at home and work , study and do their duties? The answer would be no the world is not ready yet to go fully remote.

On spring of 2021 I took CS 340 class where we discussed about the ethical issues in technology. Before taking this class and before involving in these discussion, I thought that after the COVID 19 pandemic the whole world would go remote. I thought everyone would have some kind of knowledge about technology and everyone would be using internet. But after attending this class and after discussing about the topic of digital divide. I came to realize that I was wrong and still there are majority of people who are backward in technology. They are not been able to move and adopt the growing technology and are not growing with it. The majority of people are loosing jobs and the data shows that to get a minimum job one should have the knowledge of technology. Many stories came in this pandemic where the struggles of people to adjust in this remote world was seen. Among thousands of stories one of the story got really highlighted where many school going kids were gathered around the Taco Bell to use it’s internet WIFI and to attain their classes. This highlighted the issue on how millions of people cannot just afford the internet and how they are getting back on today’s world. Internet is expensive for the people in many countries and majority of people cannot afford that. Today’s basic need is internet and lack of internet would hamper the development of people and people cannot move forward in life. Majority of people will not be able to get the jobs to life a middle class life.

To address this issue and to bridge the gap of digital divide new and innovative solutions should be brought up. Internet should be allowed to each and every individual and should be free of cost. Several effective solutions is presented to bridge digital divide. For example, access to smart devices like smart phone, internet, distance learning through technology had actually been seen effective. Solutions and program like this should be run by every government and every countries. Everyone should be given free internet access and which will support the various learning behaviors and provide several platforms to grow. Once all these goals reached then we can all stay at home and still the world would be running smooth.
